MySpace and Traffic To Your Website
By Jarmila Kopicka
Does MySpace really work? MySpace can be seen for two purposes or perspectives. 1. Social Networking 2. Business Networking The concept of MySpace is simple, connect to thousands of people and create a social network. The process is what can become complicated and time consuming. Social Networking People who focus on social networking aren't always concerned about the extreme number of friends they have, the traffic they generate, or who visits their blog. They are there to have fun, re-connect and provide themselves with a creative portal online. Time spent online can be at random times and also various lengths of time. It doesn't make a difference to a social networker. Effort in page building can be minimal or extreme. Sometimes the flashier the better and the more fun. The effort is focused on how cool the page looks and what cool comments can be left on their friends page. What do their friends think? The result is a page about that person, their social network, and who they are. Business Networking Online business networks are concerned about the amount of friends they have, the traffic they generate and the number of people who visit their blog. They are there and solely exist to drive traffic to their main website or their place of business. Bottom line, it DOES matter to them what lead generation can come from a network site. Time spent online that focuses on MySpace can be little or a lot, it depends on what the desired result is. It makes a lot of difference for the business networker. Can they drive more traffic to their site, can they get more friends, can they get more people to read their blogs? The effort in building a productive MySpace network needs to go to the extreme to be beneficial. The more time, the more blogs, the more bulletins will equal more traffic. You are always feeding your MySpace site time, time, time, time. The results can vary. How much time and effort are you willing to put into bulletins, blogs, comments, posts, friend building, group building? Sometimes when you spend a gross amount of time on your site... you still don't see desired results. Conclusion Basically, the two types of networking examples have different goals. When you have two different goals and you try to merge them into a happy medium and connect to each other... You spend more time trying to make that happen than it is sometimes worth. Having a MySpace page can't be a passive project if you expect to get traffic from a social networker. You need to spend time to develop positive results. Sometimes you need to think where your time is better spent. Where will you see results. What benefits will you see coming your way? Ultimately, you are the one that will decide where your time is best spent and if the traffic you generate to your site from MySpace is worth it.
